Uncovering Climate Risks: Implications for Businesses and Beyond (Ms Cindy Tanaka): In the rapidly evolving sustainability landscape, effective management of climate-related risks has emerged as a critical element for business resilience. This talk explores the interconnectedness between climate risks and traditional business risks, highlighting the imperative for proactive measures to mitigate their impact. Insights into climate risks and their financial implications uncover their significance for businesses, economies, and society. The regulatory landscape surrounding climate risk management, including emerging frameworks and disclosure requirements, will be examined to shed light on the evolving expectations. Leveraging climate models and scenario analysis, Cindy will introduce practical tools for measuring climate risks bolstered by real-world case studies.
Be gainfully engaged in roles around climate, nature, and water (Dr Agnes Tai): Severe weather events worldwide have increased attention and action towards climate change (Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13). Clean water (SDG 16) is also critically scarce and undervalued, with its accessibility affected by climate change. Global warming impacts nature, but nature-based solutions can address all 17 SDGs. Public and private sectors are investing significant resources to mitigate risks and capture opportunities in climate change, but good data and talent are needed to be effective. Capacity building in sustainability is crucial, from corporate boards to schools. Agnes will discuss the roles young people can play in sustainability, backed by their passion for making the world a better place. She will also cover the developments in sustainability, including regulations, sciences, technology, initiatives, and disclosures.

Ms Cindy Tanaka is a sustainability practitioner at Deloitte Hong Kong, focusing on providing sustainability risk advisory services and developing decarbonisation strategies for various industries. She gained exposure to the sustainability field through her work experience in a Hong Kong environmental think tank, where she researched different sustainability topics in the Hong Kong context and contributed to developing a white paper on zero-emissions mobility in Hong Kong. Cindy obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Environmental Engineering with a minor in Business from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and holds a GARP Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR®) Certificate.
Dr Agnes Tai is a Director of Great Glory Investment Corporation and Senior Advisor of iPartners Holdings. She holds various leadership roles, including being a Governing Board member of the Climate Governance Initiative and a Steering Committee member of the Climate Governance Initiative Hong Kong Chapter. Agnes has 44 years of experience serving the financial community in China, Hong Kong SAR, the USA, and Australia. She is also an author and frequent speaker. Agnes holds a PhD from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, an MBA from the University of Chicago - Booth School of Business, and a BSc (Honours) from Roosevelt University in the USA. Additionally, she is a graduate of the Stanford University Senior Executive Leadership Program and the 2011 Stanford Directors’ College. Her dissertation was titled “Do carbon risks matter for Hong Kong equity prices?”.
