CIVL Departmental Seminar - Soil Behavior and Properties – From the Particle/Pore Scale to the Macro-Scale

3:00pm - 4:00pm
Online via Zoom Meeting ID: 758 709 5746

Sediments are particulate materials. Their complex nature and intricate behavior in the context of natural and engineered systems remain challenging after a century of extensive research and engineering advances. Particle and pore scale analyses help us identify underlying phenomena and processes, including particle-level forces, fabric formation and self-compaction, multiphase fluid effects, fines migration, and coupled THCBM processes. Examples relate to seafloor geotechnics and energy geotechnology, and identify innovative laboratory and field procedures.

講者/ 表演者:
Prof. J. Carlos Santamarina

Prof. J. Carlos Santamarina graduated from Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, University of Maryland and Purdue University. He taught at NYU–Polytechnic University, University of Waterloo and Georgia Tech before joining KAUST. Prof. Santamarina’s research team explores the foundations of subsurface processes using particle- and pore-scale testing methods combined with geophysical monitoring and analytical/numerical solutions. This research approach supports developments in the field of energy geotechnology, with contributions to resource recovery, geostorage and marine geotechnics.
