Call for Proposals – Midstream Research Programme for Universities (MRP)

Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC is now inviting application for the fourth round of the Midstream Research Programme for Universities (MRP) which aims at encouraging UGC-funded universities to conduct more theme-based midstream research in focused technology areas.  It also aims to foster more collaborative efforts among local and overseas universities and research institutions.


Research Themes

I. Drug Development

‘Drug development’ refer to mid- to down-stream research on innovative chemical, biological or Chinese medicines-based drugs for disease management. 

II. Green Engineering Technologies

‘Green Engineering Technologies’ cover a wide range of technology areas in the engineering discipline, including renewable energy such as solar and wind energy, third generation semiconductors, remote sensing technology, artificial intelligence, intelligent buildings and smart grids.


Types of projects and Funding Limit

1.  Standalone projects: HK$5 million per project.

2.  Collaboration Projects involving multiple disciplines or research institutions: HK$10 million per project. A co-applicant can be a different unit of the same university, or a different local/non-local university/research institution.


Industry Sponsorship

Not mandatory


Clinical Study Approval Document

For project involving clinical study, clinical study approval documents including "Certificate for Clinical Trial/Medicinal Test" issued by relevant authority should be submitted together with the application form for conducting clinical trial of pharmaceutical products in Hong Kong.


Eligibility and Application Procedures

Full-time academic staff is eligible to apply.  Please read the Guide to Filling in the Application Form and online submit MRP Form 1.3 via ITCFASII to Research Office by 10 March 2021.
