Our second webinar of the entrepreneurship fireside chat series brings Edith Yeung, another experienced venture capitalist and technology executive, online to talk about how aspiring entrepreneurs can build a global unicorn from Hong Kong.  Having invested in over 2,000 companies as a previous partner at 500 Startups and as the current General Partner at Silicon Valley venture capital fund Race Capital, Edith will offer insights into what a successful pitch is like in the eyes of investors, as well as practical strategies for fundraising.

Edith Yeung

Edith is a venture capitalist, technology executive, and creator of the China Internet Report, and Silicon News.

 

Edith is a General Partner at Race Capital - an early-stage Silicon Valley venture capital fund. A few sectors we are particularly interested in infrastructure, fintech, and deep tech verticals. She has invested in over 50 startups including Lightyear/Stellar (valued $1.2B), Silk Labs (acquired by Apple), Chirp (acquired by Apple), Fleksy (acquired by Pinterest), Human (acquired by Mapbox), Solana, Oasis Labs, Nebulas, Hooked, DayDayCook, AISense, and many more.

 

Prior to Race Capital, Edith was a partner at 500 Startups, the world's most active early-stage fund and incubator invested in Twilio, Credit Karma, Grab, and 2000 more companies. Before 500, Edith was the general manager at Dolphin Browser, a Sequoia-backed mobile browser with over 150 million installs worldwide. Edith also worked with many Fortune 500 companies such as Siebel, AMS, AT&T Wireless, and Autodesk.

 

She frequently speaks on China and Silicon Valley technology and investment landscape. She is also a frequent guest lecturer at Berkeley and Stanford and commentator on BBC, CNBC, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, SCMP, Techcrunch, etc. Edith's former interviews on CNBC and WSJ D. Live.

Jack Lau, Ph.D

Jack Lau is currently the Chairman of Swanland.AI.  He is our first HKUST PhD graduate, a professor and an entrepreneur.

 

Upon graduation of his BS and MS degrees, Jack subsequently worked at Hewlett Packard, Schlumberger, and a start-up in Silicon Valley.  In 1999, Jack started Perception Digital, a company providing digital signal processor-based turn-key solutions to a number of Fortune 500 companies and technology leaders.  Perception Digital eventually went public on the main board at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Jack also served as the Chairman and CEO of the company.

 

Jack is a recipient of the 10 Most Outstanding Young Persons in Hong Kong (2000), Young Industrialist Award (2005), and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2009 China award.  In 2010, he was bestowed an Honorary Fellowship at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
